Pronunciation: Sentence Stress and Rhythm
Sentence stress and rhythm is the B1–B2 pronunciation skill that produces natural-sounding spoken English. English is a stress-timed language: stressed syllables fall at roughly regular intervals, with unstressed syllables compressed between. Content words (nouns, main verbs, adjectives, adverbs) take stress; function words (articles, prepositions, auxiliaries, pronouns) are unstressed. Learners build the rhythmic fluency that distinguishes natural from robotic speech.
This worksheet builds B1–B2 pronunciation fluency with sentence stress and rhythm.

Common challenges: Syllable-timed L1s (French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese) make every syllable equal length. English compresses unstressed syllables, which feels unnatural at first. Function-word weakening: to, of, and, at, for become weak forms in connected speech.
