So / Such / Too / Enough

Four intensifiers express emphasis, sufficiency, and excess at B1–B2. So + adjective or adverb (so clear, so efficiently) emphasises a quality. Such + (a/an) + (adjective) + noun (such a useful meeting, such good communication) emphasises the noun. Too + adjective/adverb (too long, too quickly) signals excess — more than acceptable. Adjective/adverb + enough (clear enough, experienced enough) signals sufficiency. The contrast that confuses learners most: so before adjectives, such before noun phrases — and the article goes with such (such a useful meeting) but never with so.

This worksheet drills the B1–B2 intensifier system through rewriting and discrimination tasks.

What’s inside:

  • Grammar Box with all four intensifiers, the so / such contrast (adjective vs noun phrase), and the too / enough word order rule
  • So or such? gap-fill across workplace, academic, and everyday contexts
  • Too or enough? sentence completion based on excess vs sufficiency
  • Rewriting: convert plain statements into emphatic versions using so and such
  • Full Answer Key plus Teacher Notes on the uncountable-noun rule (such useful advice, no article)

Common mistakes addressed: so + noun phrase (so a useful meeting), such + adjective alone (such useful, this meeting), too + adjective + result (too long meeting that we left without that), and missing article with such + countable singular (such useful meeting).

For: Adult and teenage learners (14+) at CEFR B1–B2, in intermediate and upper-intermediate classes, 1:1 lessons, or self-study. Intensifier precision is a B2 Writing-assessment marker in Cambridge B2 First (FCE). Part of the Articles & Quantifiers collection — the natural sibling is Quantifiers: A Few / A Little / Enough / Too, which sets up the too / enough contrast extended here.
