Reading: A Restaurant Review

Restaurant reviews are one of the most accessible authentic-text genres at A2 — short, evaluative, and built from vocabulary every learner already needs. The text in this worksheet covers a typical online restaurant review with all its conventions: the lead (what kind of restaurant), the ordering description, the food evaluation, the service comment, the atmosphere notes, and the final recommendation. Learners read for both specific information (price range, opening times, key dishes) and overall attitude (positive, mixed, negative).

This worksheet builds A2 reading comprehension through an authentic-style restaurant review, with focus on evaluative vocabulary.

Common challenges: Evaluative language is the central A2 reading skill these reviews develop — delicious, decent, overpriced, disappointing, friendly, attentive, rude all carry attitude that learners need to spot. Implied criticism is the second skill: reviews often soften negative judgments (could have been better, a bit slow) rather than stating them outright. Restaurant-specific vocabulary (starter, main course, side, beverage, bill, tip) anchors the text.

For: Adult and teenage learners (14+) at CEFR A2, in pre-intermediate classes, 1:1 lessons, or self-study. Maps onto Cambridge A2 Key (KET) Reading Parts 4–5.
